Gunjur, The Gambia — The son of the late Buba Jammeh, who was allegedly killed in a land dispute in 2019, has written an emotional tribute to his father, as the family renews calls for justice.

Abdou Jammeh, writing on social media, reflected on the pain of losing his father and the deep void left behind since his tragic death.

“It’s been years, Dad… and I’m still trying. Trying to be strong. Trying to smile. Trying to live the kind of life you’d be proud of. But honestly? Some days, the silence is too loud,” he wrote.

“I remember those days when we rode together on the motorcycle to school — and suddenly, tears. Life just doesn’t feel right without you… You were my hero — not perfect, but perfectly mine.”

“Your place in my life is blank, and no one can ever fill it. I whisper, ‘I miss you.’ And I keep going… because I know you’d want me to.”

The heartfelt message comes as legal proceedings resume against Buba Drammeh, who stands accused of killing Buba Jammeh at point-blank range during the dispute.

Drammeh, who reportedly escaped custody following the 2019 incident, had been living in neighbouring Senegal before being apprehended by Senegalese authorities and extradited to The Gambia.

He has since appeared in court and is facing charges relating to the killing. The case has been adjourned to June 19 for further hearing.

The Jammeh family, alongside many community members in Gunjur, continues to seek justice and closure after years of waiting.
