By Sainey Darboe, Editor-in-chief;
Momodou Charreh Gibba, Gunjur ward Councillor, has called on authorities to intensify efforts in bringing the murderer of Gunjur native Buba Jammeh to justice.
Addressing the authorities in a letter made available to Gunjuronline, he said:
“It is always heart breaking, devastating and very much annoying that anytime our minds reflect on the gruesome murder of our beloved brother and colleague - BUBA JAMMEH. The entire community has gone through a huge pain and sorrow without any redress. We have patiently waited and waited far too long without any justice . On behalf of the community of Gunjur, I write to draw your attention once again on the above mentioned issue .
Sir, WHAT IS GOING ON ? WHEN SHALL WE SEE JUSTICE TO BE DONE ? These are questions lingering in our minds. Gunjur is still mourning, and I would like to engage your office to furnish us with the information that would give us hope . We deserve an up-to-date information on the matter as well as any further plans to ensure that justice for Buba would be served at the end. As we approach yet another anniversary, we hereby solicit your maximum cooperation to ensure the long awaited justice . Personally, I have no doubt that your office is very much concerned but the Gambia Government through your office is highly expected to do something.
Sir, in a separate development i would like to take this opportunity to enquire about the reinstatement of the police station back to Gunjur. While we seek justice on one hand , it is also imperative to restore back the police coverage in Gunjur. I hope, and I believe that this letter would be given due consideration. While I patiently look forward to hearing from you, I thank you so much”.
Buba Jammeh was allegedly shot and killed at his orchard by one Buba Drammeh from Berending on Saturday 16th March 2019 in a communal land dispute which saw scores of other people wounded. The suspect, Buba Drammeh remains at large despite a nationwide manhunt by The Gambia Police Force.
Meanwhile, youths of Gunjur are planning on a peaceful procession to mark the one year anniversary of the gruesome murder of Buba Jammeh in Gunjur.
