The Gunjur Sports Committee (GSC) on Saturday successfully hosted its maiden Annual Sports Awards Night at Le BeatRoute Club in Gunjur, marking a significant milestone in the promotion and recognition of sporting excellence in the community.
Organised under GSC’s “New Era of Sports Development” mantra, the historic event brought together sports stakeholders, football enthusiasts, sponsors, and distinguished guests to celebrate outstanding achievements during the 2025/26 Gunjur Nawettan season.

Opening the awards night, GSC President Lamin Bada Bojang thanked sponsors, partners, and stakeholders for their invaluable support in making the event possible and warmly welcomed the distinguished guests in attendance.
The young leader assured the gathering that his executive’s sports development agenda is anchored on the belief that “the things that have not been done before are the tasks worthwhile today,” a philosophy that continues to guide the committee’s vision under its “New Era of Sports Development” mantra. He further commended members of his executive committee for their dedication, teamwork, and tireless efforts in advancing sports development in Gunjur, noting that the progress achieved so far is a testament to their collective commitment to transforming the sporting landscape of the community.
The ceremony was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Dibba, representatives from the Office of the President, and Gunjur-born football star Bakary Jatta. Also in attendance were sponsors and partners including BAC, Tech World, and Kombo Real Estate.

Best Club of the Season
Best Player of the Season
Coach of the Season
Most Disciplined Team
Most Committed Team Towards the Awards Night
Late Saihou Jones Best Defender of the season Award
Foday Jabang Golden Boot Award
The event also witnessed significant commitments towards the improvement of sports infrastructure in Gunjur. The Gunjur Sports Committee received a cheque donation of D250,000 from the Gunjur Ward Development Fund towards the construction of a dressing room at the Gunjur football field.


Additionally, the Ministry of Youth and Sports announced a commitment of D500,000 towards the construction of a pavilion, a project expected to enhance the football ground and provide improved facilities for players, officials, and spectators.
Speakers at the event praised the GSC leadership for its vision and commitment to advancing sports development in Gunjur. The awards initiative was described as a major step towards motivating players, coaches, clubs, supporters, and administrators while promoting excellence, discipline, and sportsmanship.
The maiden Annual Sports Awards Night is expected to become a regular feature on Gunjur’s sporting calendar as GSC continues to implement its “New Era of Sports Development” agenda and strengthen community sports development.
