Bojang’s Vision Transforms Local Football and Ignites Community Passion.
The Gunjur Sports Committee (GSC), under the leadership of its youthful and visionary president Lamin Bada Bojang, is redefining the landscape of community sports in the coastal town of Gunjur.

Since taking office with a team of mostly first-time sports administrators in July 2025, Sports Committee President Bojang has injected fresh energy and innovation into local football, particularly the annual Gunjur Summer Nawettan. This 2025/26 League Championship has been hailed as one of the most organised and entertaining tournaments in recent memory.
Before his election, Bojang set out a bold and inspiring vision for Gunjur’s sporting future.
“Our sports need a fresh approach,” Bojang declared before the vote. “Together, we can unlock the potential of every athlete and make Gunjur a beacon of sports excellence in The Gambia.”
Operating under the theme “A New Era of Sports Development,” the committee has built on the achievements of its predecessor, led by veteran sports administrator Dembo Karl Touray, while introducing new ideas that have transformed the local grassroots sporting scene.
For the first time in Gunjur’s football history, the Super Cup Final featured a winners’ podium and multi-channel live coverage, giving both players and spectators a more professional and memorable experience.

Adding to the excitement, this year’s Summer Nawettan has witnessed unprecedented fan club entertainment at every league game held at Nyamina Mini Stadium. Fans have turned out in large numbers, showcasing their passion through drumming, dancing, and colorful cultural displays that have transformed the stadium into a vibrant arena of community pride and football spirit.

In another landmark achievement, the GSC has made significant investments in sports infrastructure at the Nyamina Mini Stadium. The committee has also successfully completed the construction of a modern toilet facility in partnership with other stakeholders just in time for the Super Cup Final, greatly improving convenience and hygiene standards for players and fans alike. Additionally, a heavy-duty sprinkler system has been installed to maintain the quality of the pitch and ensure better playing conditions throughout the season.

President Bojang reaffirmed his committee’s commitment to sustaining these gains, emphasising that their focus extends beyond organising tournaments.
“Our goal is to create lasting structures that support youth development, discipline, and community pride through sports,” he said.
The new developments mark a turning point for Gunjur’s sporting community, positioning the town as one of the leading centers for grassroots football in The Gambia.
As the new executive continues to implement its vision, fans and stakeholders alike believe this truly represents the dawn of a new era of sports development in Gunjur.
