The Gunjur Ward Development Committee (WDC) has provided a significant boost to sports development in the community by donating D250,000 to the Gunjur Sports Committee (GSC) towards the completion of dressing rooms at the Nyamina Football Field.

The funding forms part of the 2026 Ward Development Allocation of D1 million disbursed by the WDC to support priority development projects across Gunjur Ward.
According to an official dispatch issued by Ward Councillor Hon. Momodou Charreh Gibba on 30th May 2026, the allocation followed extensive consultations with Village Development Committees (VDCs), community representatives, and other stakeholders to identify and prioritize projects that address the needs of local communities.
The Nyamina Football Field project received D250,000 under Project Lot 3. The funds are earmarked for the completion of dressing room facilities at the popular football ground, which serves communities within Gunjur Ward and hosts sporting activities involving teams from across the district and beyond.
The Ward Development Committee noted that investing in sports infrastructure is essential for youth empowerment, talent development, and social cohesion.
โRecognizing the important role of sports in youth empowerment and social development, the Gunjur Ward Development Committee has allocated Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dalasis (D250,000) to the Gunjur Sports Committee for the completion of dressing rooms at the Nyamina Football Field,โ the statement said.
The committee further emphasised that the football field has become an important sporting venue that attracts activities from various communities, making the improvement of its facilities a worthwhile investment for the development of young people.
Besides the sports project, the WDC also disbursed D352,000 to the Misera Village Development Committee for the completion of the Misera Community Health Post, including modern public toilets and a water supply system. Another D250,000 has been approved for the construction of public sanitation facilities and a borehole water system at the newly established Kachumeh Market.
Hon. Gibba reaffirmed the committeeโs commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources. He expressed appreciation to the Chairman of the Brikama Area Council, Hon. Yankuba Darboe, for the timely release of the funds and thanked members of the Ward Development Committee, beneficiary VDCs, and community stakeholders for their collaboration in advancing development initiatives within Gunjur Ward.
The projects form part of ongoing efforts to improve health services, sanitation, youth development, and overall community welfare across Gunjur Dabanani.
