The initiative forms part of the Council’s broader effort to deepen decentralisation and empower communities to directly determine and implement priority development projects at ward level.

What It Means for Gunjur

For Gunjur Ward, the allocation gives the Ward Development Committee (WDC), in collaboration with the Ward Councillor and community stakeholders, the opportunity to identify and prioritise projects that address the town’s most pressing needs.

Key priority areas under the fund include:

These sectors are particularly relevant to Gunjur, where community-driven development remains central to improving livelihoods and strengthening local services.

Expected Impact in Gunjur

The D1 million allocation is expected to:

• Improve access to essential services

• Strengthen local economic activities, especially through market development

• Support food security initiatives in women’s gardens

• Enhance youth engagement through sports development

• Expand water and electricity access

• Boost public confidence in local governance

Implementation and Oversight

Projects in Gunjur Ward will be prioritised through consultations led by the Ward Development Committee, according to Gunjur Ward Councillor Gibba. Technical guidance will be provided by the Council’s Directorate of Planning and Development, while procurement and financial management will follow established Council regulations.

Monitoring and reporting mechanisms will ensure transparency and accountability throughout the implementation process.
