The United Democratic Party Seattle chapter in the United States over the weekend made over D3M in a fundraising haul, as the party rank and file seek to strategically position it for victory in 2021 presidential polls.

Though 2021 elections are more than 21 months away, the opening salvos have already been fired with the dismissal under insalubrious circumstances of UDP leader and former Vice President Ousainou Darboe, Trade Minister Amadou Sanneh, as well as Minister of Agriculture Lamin Dambou Dibba.

Addressing party faithful over the weekend in Seattle, United States, Darboe issued a clarion call to unity and tolerance in the party. He urged UDP militants to eschew politics of insults and confrontation even when they are provoked.

In another development during a political rally held at Bundung, Amadou Sanneh, former Minister of Trade postulated:

“We are all in the party. Some came yesterday. Some have been members of the party since 1996. But you can remind President Adama Barrow [of] when did he come to UDP. Was it in 2006? He’s a newcomer. If he says UDP was fighting for power for 22 years that that 22 years we couldn’t defeat Yahya; that he came in three months and removed Yahya.

Where did he first stand? It was the parliamentary elections where he contested against Mamma Kandeh and lost. He contested again and lost. So he came to UDP. He was covered with a UDP blanket. Because of this he was chosen by UDP”.

Amadou Sanneh who was tortured and incarcerated under president Jammeh added:

“So today if you say you’re sacking the secretary general [of UDP] (Darboe), you say that you’re sacking Honourable Lamin Dibba and myself, you haven’t sacked us. You guys should tell him he has in fact issued himself a red card.”
