Subject: Urgent Appeal for Immediate Response to the Plight of Gambian Migrants in Libya
Dear Hon. Minister,
I write to you with deep concern and a sense of urgency regarding the recent tragic incident involving Gambian migrants in Libya. Reports indicate that a devastating fire has claimed the lives of some of our compatriots and left others with severe burns and life-threatening injuries.
It is both heartbreaking and alarming that Gambians driven by the hope of a better life continue to face such perilous conditions abroad. The victims of this incident are reported to be in critical need of medical attention, consular assistance, and immediate humanitarian support.

In light of these dire circumstances, I respectfully call on your esteemed office and the Government of The Gambia to:
Immediately investigate and confirm the identities and conditions of the Gambian nationals affected by the incident.
Deploy a diplomatic and/or consular team to Libya to coordinate urgent medical care and facilitate evacuation where necessary.
Engage with international partners and humanitarian organisations operating in Libya to ensure the well-being and protection of our citizens.
Provide regular and transparent updates to the Gambian public - particularly the families of the victims - regarding steps being taken and progress made.
The safety, dignity, and rights of Gambian migrants must be upheld at all times, regardless of their location. A swift and proactive response from the Government will not only save lives but reaffirm our collective commitment to the protection of Gambians abroad.
Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Hon. Momodou Charreh Gibba
Councilor, Gunjur Ward
