Former Minister of Information and Gunjur native, Dr. Amadou Scattred Janneh has been adopted as father by the Niumi Jurunku chapter of UDP.
Speaking during the meeting with the kombo South UDP politician at his house in Gunjur, Dodou Kassa Jatta said the group moved to adopt Scattred Janneh as the father to their chapter because of their favorable impression of his love for the country and his fight to end dictatorship in The Gambia.
He said: " Amadou Scattred Janneh is a patriotic citizen who loves this country and fought for change. He worked under Jammeh but it was the country he was serving. He served the interest of the people that's why Jammeh couldn't continue working with him. The process of adopting him has been going on for months and it's only now the group was able to come here to make it formal. They have indeed made a great choice of father and they will not be disappointed.”
For his part, Amadou Scattred Janneh welcomed the move. His words: " Public speaking is not often a problem for me but today i don't know what to say. I realize there are millions of people in the country, but you chose me. I will do my best to work with you to fulfill your expectations. We shall fight together to ensure a better Gambia and to get our leader, Ousainou Darboe into the State House. Ousainou Darboe is the one we want at the State House and we shall work together to achieve that. We will not stop at winning the State House but UDP has the right policies to address people's concerns on employment, environment and justice. We will create good conditions so that young people don't have to risk their lives to go to Europe through the backway. I am very thankful for this and by the grace of Allah we will achieve our goals for our country by working together.”
