Blue Ventures and Partners to Host Feedback Session on Fisheries Data Collection in The Gambia

Kartong, The Gambia 21 November 2025 Blue Ventures (BV), in collaboration with its local partners CETAG and SANYEPD, will host a key feedback session at the Halahin Ecolodge in Kartong to present and discuss preliminary findings from nine months of fisheries data collection and mangrove ecosystem monitoring in The Gambia.
Since the beginning of the year, BV and its partners have been supporting communities in gathering essential data to better understand resource use patterns and strengthen community-based fisheries management. This upcoming feedback session will provide an important platform to share these results with local partners, community groups, and stakeholders, and to demonstrate how these insights can inform decision-making.
During the session, participants will explore the community fisheries dashboard—an interactive tool designed to visualize trends and support local governance of fisheries and mangrove resources. Presentations, group discussions, and participatory exercises will help deepen understanding of the collected data and highlight opportunities for improved management.
“We are pleased to work closely with communities and partners to build strong, data-driven foundations for sustainable fisheries management,” said Awa Rane Ndoye, Head of Technical Capacity at Blue Ventures in West Africa. “This session will reinforce the importance of collaboration and shared learning.”
Representatives from CETAG, SANYEPD, and key community groups, including the Hallahin Women Oyster Association, will take part in the discussions. The event will also bring together members of the BV team: Abdoulaye Ndiaye (Campaign Manager, Advocacy), Antoine Mendy (Financial Inclusion Officer), Ndeye Coumba Bousso (Data Science Officer), Bacary Mané (Partnership Coordinator), and Marietou Kane (Program Manager).
By the end of the session, participants are expected to identify lessons learned from the data collection efforts and to agree on recommendations to enhance the management of fisheries and mangrove ecosystems in the region. The strengthened partnerships formed through this initiative will contribute to more resilient and community-driven resource governance in The Gambia.
