Mustapha Manneh has been nominated as 2020 Activist of the year

Mustapha Manneh, Kartong based journalist and activist has been nominated as 2020 Activist of the year by Africans Risiing. Mustapha is the founder of Their Voices Must Be Heard organisation in Kartong, The Gambia.



Mustapha Manneh is a passionate community servant with the ability to inspire and motivate individuals in identifying their potential to continue and share this passion to serve others.


With this ongoing quest to give, he has been able to promote significant, positive change in communities and individuals through advocacy and school outreach, empowered by compassion. He takes pride in engaging in civically-based approaches to community building as he is committed to life-long service based on personal and professional experiences.


Mustapha is from Kartong, a community affected by sand mining and fishmeal pollution, and is inspired to be a voice to the voiceless and a beacon of hope to the hopeless. As founder of the community-lead organization Their Voice Must Be Heard, Mustapha is able to impact positive changes through non-violent activism and photo journalism. In 2018, he was invited by Greenpeace International as a guest speaker during their AGM in Dakar.


On 10th December 2020, he was awarded a Human Rights Hero Award by Gambians leading Human Rights NGO and was also nominated by the Federation of International Gender and Human Rights as a nominee for the Peace Prize Children’s Aid and Help 2020 Year Award.
