It’s too sad you don’t celebrate your own - Banjul Mayor tells UDP

Banjul city mayor, Rohey Malick Lowe, has called out opposition United Democratic Party for not celebrating and supporting her, as the plot thickens on reports of strained relations.

GunjurOnline had contacted UDP Spokesperson, Almamy Fanding Taal, to verify reports of acrimony between the mayor and UDP hierarchy resulting in the party's failure to acknowledge and publicly congratulate her on being elected as president of African Capital Cities Sustainability Forum and as an executive member of the Global Parliament of Mayors. His words:

“Yes, as I have said the party has congratulated her. However, as a party we do not wish to engage in self-congratulation after all this is not the first time she has made our nation proud. What may be of interest to UDP is why has the other parties and the Ministry of Local Government not publicly congratulated her. That could be an interesting line of inquiry. UDP KANKILLING”.

Speaking in a standard newspaper interview, Rohey a Malick Lowe retorted:

“I am happy that Mr Taal [UDP spokesperson] said that they don’t want to be self-congratulatory. I want to tell Mr Taal that it’s so sad you don’t celebrate your own but you go all the way thousands of kilometres to celebrate somebody else”.
