Historic Road Upgrade for Gunjur Begins September 4

Gunjur, Kombo South – In a historic step towards improving infrastructure and easing transportation challenges, the people of Gunjur will on Thursday, September 4, 2025, witness the official groundbreaking ceremony for the town’s much-anticipated Main Thoroughfare Project.

The 3-kilometer road, which runs through the heart of Gunjur, will be paved, fitted with a modern drainage system, and equipped with street lighting. This development marks a significant milestone for the community, promising safer travel, enhanced connectivity, and improved socio-economic activities.


This announcement came on the back of the near completion of the Gunjur beach road under the Gambia government’s “YIRIWA” project. The beach road is being constructed by Green Vision company of Gunjur-born Ousman John Touray.

Construction of the Gunjur main thoroughfare road will be undertaken by BAJAM Construction under the close supervision of the National Road Authority (NRA). The project is expected to bring much-needed relief to the community of Gunjur who have long endured poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season.



Community leaders and residents have welcomed the project, describing it as “a long overdue development that will transform the town’s outlook and boost commerce and industry.”


The groundbreaking ceremony will bring together government officials, local authorities, community elders, and residents to celebrate the beginning of this transformative journey for Gunjur.
