Halifa Sallah reveals how he saved Darboe from potentially being killed by Jammeh

UDP leader, Ousainou Darboe, was at a high risk of being killed by Jammeh after his loss in 2016 elections until PDOIS leader Halifa Sallah deployed strategic maneuvers to save his life, it’s been revealed.

In a wide-ranging exclusive interview with Lamin Njie of The Fatu Network, Halifa Sallah disclosed:

“Mr. Darboe would tell you that when Jammeh reneged the position, they were more endangered than anyone else at that material time. So in actual fact ... there’s a side of Gambian history that I don’t think it’s fair for me to narrate at the moment because it gives a hero’s image of a process that was a collective process.

Sallah revealed that Darboe and fellow political prisoners were at risk of being harmed when Jammeh rejected the 2016 election loss

But if people force me into details I will give the details. The details would only continue to propagate the individuality of a process. But collectively we must anchor our actions on something that each person contributes to the common fold”.

Despite divergence on political issues, Halifa Sallah declared he has nothing but love and affection for the perennial opposition candidate which motivated him to make efforts to end his suffering in jail and saving him from Jammeh’s murderous regime.

Added Halifa: “There’s no personal issue between me and Mr. Darboe. Interest is not about me. Him going and people selecting him to be president of the Republic is like president Barrow doing the same thing. People contest elections and they must have differences on some things and that doesn’t lead to animosity and wanting that person to die and suffer in prison. I don’t see interests to be necessarily antagonistic.

And I don’t have any antagonistic relations with anybody. But we will struggle on values, we will struggle on principles. Our first action after Jammeh conceded was to make sure that he comes out of jail. We worked together. We worked with all of them during that period”.
