Gunjur Humiliate Brikama To Reach WCR Super 'Nawettan' Final

A young Gunjur side of an average age Of about 16, humiliated Brikama 6 - 2 in a double legged tie, to set up a tie against rivals Sanyang in the final of the maiden edition of the West Coast Region Super 'Nawettan' football Championship.

This was a justification that Gunjur's 3 - 1 win over Brikama in the 2016 Super 'Nawettan' Championship at the quarter-finals, was not any dramatic.

Coming into this semi-final clash, Brikama were hopeful of inflicting the heaviest of revenge on this inexperienced Gunjur side who has five of their key figures playing with the under 15's of the G.I.P Academy, ironically, they suffered the heaviest of humiliation against a Gunjur side in history.

Brikama's destruction started at their own backyard in the popular SSP arena, when they saw a shocking drama unfolds before their eyes in the first leg, with Gunjur scoring three second-half goals to win 3 - 1.

Mustapha Jobe opened the scoring just 5 minutes into the second half, before Bubacarr Jabang and Lamin Touray added to the Gunjur's lead. Brikama's consolation was netted by Sanna Camara.

This return leg in Gunjur on the 16th of January was an Almighty opportunity for Brikama to prove to the footballing community of the West Coast Region that their defeat in the first leg was unexpected.

From start to finish, they didn't show anything close to that. This Brikama side were too weak to combat the freshness and verve of a young energetic freewheeling Gunjur side full of flair and invention.

Brikama appeared panic stricken for whatever reason, under pressure, they conceded an own goal just after 9 minutes, which makes it a certain Gunjur victory as they lead 4 - 1 on aggregate.

With that scoreline, Gunjur failed to take their foot off the gas, signaling they didn't still have the game their way. They keep pressing Brikama at every presentable chance and duly got a second when Yankuba Suwareh forced home a powerful left-footed drive to make it 2 - 0. ( 5 - 1 on aggregate).

At that moment, Brikama knew they lack all the strength and talent to make any comeback even though it was not halftime yet.

And Gunjur will soon put the tie beyond any doubt as the lethal teenage forward Sheriffo Bojang makes it 3 - 0 to Gunjur, (6 - 1 on aggregate).

And, all that Brikama could manage as a way of response was a mere consolation from the penalty spot just before the break, then the damage was beyond repair, and thoughts of a comeback did not even crush their minds at that moment.

With the tie firmly within their grips, Gunjur took their foot off the gas as they completed the second half with some juggler movements and Brikama did not show any ambition of a fightback as the return leg ended 3 - 1 to Gunjur. (6 - 2 on aggregate).

This might not be a vitally important competition as any national championship, but history will remind generations that, Gunjur have sent Brikama packing in the maiden WCR Super 'Nawettan' football competition with their tails between their legs.

As shocking as it may sound, that was the least Gunjur deserved in this encounter as they remain unbeaten.
