The Gambia Teachers’ Credit Union Cooperative (GTUCCU) has officially extended its operations to Gunjur, offering residents accessible and affordable financial services aimed at boosting local economic growth.

Established in 1997, GTUCCU has built a reputation for supporting its members through cooperative savings and loan schemes under the guiding principle of “People Helping People.” The arrival of the credit union in Gunjur marks a significant step toward increasing financial inclusion in the community.
With a minimum account opening balance of just D200, individuals can now begin saving and gain access to a range of financial support services. The initiative is expected to benefit not just teachers, but entrepreneurs, farmers, fishermen, and individuals involved in construction and other development activities.

GTUCCU is offering various loan facilities tailored to meet different needs, including agricultural loans, construction loans, consumer loans, regular loans, feast loans, and emergency loans. Notably, the emergency loan scheme comes with a zero-penalty policy in genuine emergency situations, providing relief to members during unexpected hardships.

The credit union’s presence in Gunjur is anticipated to support small businesses, enhance agricultural productivity, strengthen the fishing sector, and promote infrastructure development within the community.
GTUCCU is currently operating at Gunjur Sandalee Petrol Station (Gunjur Garage), where community members can visit to open accounts and learn more about the available services.
The expansion reflects ongoing efforts to empower communities through cooperative finance, encouraging savings culture and providing accessible credit to drive sustainable development in Gunjur.
Editor’s Note:
Gunjur Online welcomes the expansion of financial institutions that promote community empowerment and economic growth. Access to affordable credit and structured savings schemes is essential for local entrepreneurs, farmers, fishermen, and families striving to improve their livelihoods. We encourage residents to seek full information about the terms and conditions of any financial service before committing and to make informed decisions that best suit their needs.
