Concern for safety and security grows in Gunjur amid increased level of burglary

Monday 20 July | GunjurOnline

The people of the sprawling coastal settlement of Gunjur this morning woke up to yet another incident of violent burglary attempt at the compound of reknown Islamic scholar, Imam Ba Kawsu Jatta.

The alledged thief was caught and given mob justice before being taken to the Gunjur Police post where he is currently behind bars, appeared/pretending to look dead possibly to avoid questioning.

According to sources, the thief attempted the burglary in the early hours of the morning when his luck ran out and was caught and mercilessly beaten and taken to police.

This follows the escape from police custody, another violent thief who broke into the Kaajabang Health Post a few weeks ago. The thief was apprehended and taken into custody only to escape and still at large.

The community of Gunjur have recently experienced increased high level and violent theft incidents which is a major cause for concen. The locals are pointing fingers at the high number of undocumented and foreign nationals who are mainly seen around the fish landing site in Gunjur during the day to be the people behind these coordinated theft cases.

Others believe the thieves have collaboration from local youths who are providing them with information about properties to raid in Gunjur.
