Hon. Omar A. Manjang has called for greater shared responsibility between men and women in antenatal and postnatal care across The Gambia.

In a statement, he expressed his support for ongoing calls for change, urging men to actively participate in what are traditionally seen as women-dominated spaces, commonly referred to as β€œNurse” clinics.

β€œI am excited to join the call for change and shared responsibility in the monthly antenatal and postnatal clinics,” he said. β€œI call on men to step up and break the syndrome of women domination in these spaces across the country.”

Hon. Manjang emphasised that socially constructed gender roles in maintaining family welfare should not persist in a just and progressive society. He noted that both parents have a crucial role to play in safeguarding the health and well-being of their children.

β€œLet’s join hands and work towards a common goal. Together, we can care, monitor, safeguard, and make informed decisions about the healthcare of our children,” he added.
