Commenting on the training, Zainab Faal said: “There are certain fundamentals they (participants) must recognise in the business of disseminating information in order to share accurate, impactful, and interesting stories from within the community.” Commenting further on how the training was structured and delivered, Zainab continued: “I gave participants in groups the task of identifying stories that should be reported in the community and why they should be reported.”
During the course of the training, participants identified pertinent issues that are newsworthy but for some reason are not being reported.
The aim of the community journalism training, which is part of a series, is to equip these young people who are interested in media the knowledge to tell stories, as when people are informed, they are empowered to make informed decisions about their lives.
