20MW Power Plant Inaugurated in Brikama

Brikama II Power Supply Plant has today been inaugurated by Gambian President Adama Barrow at the NAWEC power generation plant in Brikama. GM0076 and GM0077 will each generate 10MW which will increase the power supply capacity of NAWEC to the Greater Banjul Area.

New 20MW Power plant inaugurated in Brikama

The addition of the new 20MW generating capacity will increase the total electricity supply capacity of NAWEC from 35MW in 2017 to 85MW in 2021. The project which was jointly funded by The Gambia government and the Islamic Development Bank at a tune of $28M is part of the government’s 2017 - 2025 electricity development roadmap for the country.


STF of Korea and Jah Oil of The Gambia were the contractors of Power Plant the project while the engine was manufactured by MAN of Germany.

Gambians have been yearning for a stable and consistent power supply for decades as electricity consumption of the country continue to increase year on year. For the country to have any chance of socio-economic development, a stable supply of electricty is imperative. Consequently, the addition of 20MW generating capacity is a welcome development
