With schools preparing to reopen and families facing the financial pressures associated with the new academic year, the Abubacarr Al Siddiq Foundation for Orphan and Needy Welfare (AFNOW) has provided practical support to more than 100 children in Gunjur.

The Foundation has distributed school supplies valued at more than D50,000 to over 100 orphans and needy school-going children in Gunjur ahead of the reopening of schools.

The distribution, part of the Foundationโ€™s annual back-to-school support programme, included exercise books, pens, pencils, school bags, scientific calculators and graph books, among other educational materials.

AFNOW said the initiative is intended to help children from vulnerable backgrounds begin the new academic year with essential learning materials.

The Foundation also disclosed that the funds used to purchase the supplies were generated through proceeds from its chair rental service.

AFNOW thanked the community of Gunjur for supporting the initiative by renting its chairs, saying the income generated from the service has enabled the Foundation to channel resources into supporting children in need.

The initiative illustrates how a community-based income-generating activity can be used to fund social support programmes within the community.

For families already facing the rising costs associated with education, the provision of basic stationery and school equipment can help reduce some of the financial burden of preparing children for the new school year.

AFNOW said it remains committed to supporting orphans and needy children as part of its broader humanitarian work.

The Foundationโ€™s latest intervention comes as pupils, parents and teachers across Gunjur prepare for the start of another academic year.
