Press release: Gunjur Task Force reacts to claims by a VDC member Date: 14 August 2017
Gunjur Task Force (GTF) is a group of Gunjurians in both Gunjur and abroad that have raised a legal suit against Golden Lead factory due to its impact on the environment and the health of the community.
To hear a recent interview with a member of the Gunjur VDC on the Lamin Cham show was surprising and disappointing suggesting that the Gunjur Task Force is built upon outsiders and strangers. How can this be true when the chair of the Gunjur VDC was present at task force meetings where action was discussed in detail regarding the concerns of the practices of Golden Lead factory.
A recent TV show ‘Face the Nation’ aired on GRTS last week provided a platform for the Gunjur Task Force to ask questions and raise concerns directly to the Government representatives. What the GRTS show didn’t show was our elected Kombo South MP (KKB) shouting and chastising the Gunjur Task Force for not raising the matter with him, the Alkilo or the Chief of the village and insinuated that the task force side stepped them and took the matter direct to the Government. Once again this was very surprising as hand delivered letters were sent directly to KKB, Chief and Alkilo on 27th May and 14th June 2017. All of which were ignored.
It was only after the complete disregard for the concerns raised, the complete lack of interest by all the authorities and the increasing mistruths being shouted did the Gunjur Task Force feel no other option than to raise a legal suit against Golden Lead factory. If no one wanted to listen to the concerns being raised and the damage being caused, our only option for justice was to ask the judiciary.
The Gunjur task force are shocked and surprised that such untruthful allegations are being made against them when the only concern has been about the welfare of the people and environment of Gunjur.
