The road is expected to serve as a vital corridor for farmers and traders, easing the movement of agricultural produce and improving access between the two communities. For years, residents have struggled with poor road conditions, particularly during the rainy season, when transportation is often disrupted and access to markets becomes difficult.

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Security in partnership with the National Roads Authority, with funding support from the World Bank. It forms part of a broader national initiative aimed at strengthening rural infrastructure and boosting agricultural productivity.

The ceremony was attended by the Chief of Kombo South, Falalo M. Touray, the Alkalos of Gunjur and Berending, Imam Ratib of Gunjur, Sheikh Muhammed Lamin Touray, as well as officials from the National Roads Authority and the Ministry of Agriculture.

Beyond its physical scope, the Gunjurโ€“Berending road is seen as a strategic investment in local economic development, connecting farms to markets, reducing transportation costs, and creating new opportunities for growth.

As construction begins, residents and stakeholders alike are optimistic that the project will significantly improve mobility and livelihoods, reinforcing the governmentโ€™s commitment to transforming rural communities through targeted infrastructure development.
