NPP Admin Secretary Seedy Ceesay Urges African Political Parties to Embrace Change

The National People’s Party (NPP) Administrative Secretary Seedy Sheriff Ceesay has called on African political parties to modernise, embrace technology, and open the doors of leadership to young people if they are to remain relevant in a fast-changing world.

Speaking at the African Political Parties Summit in Accra, earlier on Thursday, Ceesay also extended heartfelt condolences from President Adama Barrow and the Gambian people to Ghana, following a recent helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several senior officials.

“Citizens, especially the youth, are demanding more transparency, participation, and accountability. Political parties must change, not just how they operate, but why they exist,” Ceesay said in his address.

Ceesay outlined five priority areas he believes are crucial for the future of African political movements:

  1. Flexibility in responding to crises

  2. Ethical use of technology

  3. Genuine opportunities for youth leadership

  4. Commitment to strong guiding values

  5. Cross-border cooperation to tackle shared challenges

The three-day summit brought together political leaders, strategists, and thinkers from across the continent to discuss the evolving role of political parties in addressing Africa’s governance challenges and aspirations for the future.

Ceesay’s message was clear: African politics must adapt to the demands of the 21st century or risk losing the trust of the people.
