The trees planted include avocado, orange, mango, banana, jackfruit and palm trees.

Organisers said the initiative is aimed at helping to mitigate the effects of climate change while creating greener and more conducive environments for learning and healthcare. The fruit trees are also expected to provide students with access to nutritious fruits as they mature.

Yusupha Janneh, popularly known as Prince, Coordinator of the Walk for Health Gunjur Six Junction Chapter, described the exercise as a โ€œworthwhile ventureโ€, stressing that it forms part of the groupโ€™s broader commitment to community service.

โ€œThis is about giving back and working together to protect our environment for future generations.โ€

Janneh also called for greater collaboration in community-driven initiatives, urging individuals, organisations and institutions to work together on projects that benefit both the environment and the wider community.

School authorities welcomed the initiative and commended Walk for Health and Tenko Kunku Eco Garden for their contribution.

They noted that the trees will provide long-term benefits for students while helping to improve the school environment and promote greater awareness of environmental protection among young people.

The initiative is another example of community-led efforts to promote climate resilience, environmental conservation and healthier communities in Gunjur.
