The Kombo Sillah Association (KSA), a UK-based registered charity with a 25-year history of supporting development initiatives in The Gambia, has announced major progress on the construction of a dining hall at Gunjur Lower Basic School. The association has so far spent D340,000 on the ongoing project, which is aimed at improving the wellbeing of students through better meal facilities.

In a public update, KSA revealed that while the dining hall is not yet complete, substantial work has already been done, thanks to the generous support of its members and donors.

“We are pleased to provide an update on the Gunjur Lower Basic School Dining Hall project, which has made significant strides towards its completion,” the association stated. “To date, KSA has successfully disbursed a total of D340,000 to our dedicated development partners in Gunjur.”

The association emphasised that the funding has been instrumental in advancing the project, and the current structure is already showing promise as a transformative space for students. Once finished, the dining hall is expected to enhance the school environment by offering a proper and hygienic place where students can gather for meals, promoting both health and a stronger sense of community.

However, KSA acknowledged that further work is needed to ensure the facility meets the intended standards of comfort and utility.

“While we celebrate this progress, it is important to note that there remains some work to be accomplished to ensure that the dining hall meets our high standards,” the statement continued. “We are committed to collaborating closely with our team to identify outstanding tasks and take actionable steps to complete the project.”

The charity extended heartfelt thanks to its supporters, especially its members and the Gambian diaspora in the UK, whose unwavering commitment has driven the project forward.

“Your support has not only made this project possible but has also reinforced our collective vision for a better future for these young learners.”

KSA has promised to continue providing updates as the project advances and reiterated its long-term commitment to supporting education and community development in The Gambia.
