Gunjur celebrates donations for Gunjur Health Centre from Gambia Diaspora Health Initiative.
Gunjur Health Centre has benefited from a donation of a truck load of medical items from The Gambia Diaspora Health Initiative (GDHI).
The items were received on Thursday 7th March at a special presentation attended by the Gunjur Ward Councilor Momodou Charreh Jibba, VDC Project Coordinator Mr Buba Janneh, Mr Omar (Diamond) Darboe of GDA, Mr Lamin Manjang - Senior Public Health Officer, Mr. Hatab Jobe - GDA Ground President, Bunama Jatta - GDA Health Officer, and some female nurses from the health center in Gunjur. All expressed appreciation and promise to make good use of the materials as they received the donated items.
GDHI is a diaspora based organisation with emphases on the provision of healthcare and medical facilities in communities in The Gambia. The organisation was founded and led by Oumie Andrews, Effie Nancy Nyassi, who serves as chair, among others.
The organisation distributed two containers of 40ft/20ft full of medical items worth a staggering $500,000 to health facilities in The Gambia including the main referral hospital EFTHS in Banjul. Gunjur is among a host of communities who received truck load of medical equipments from the GDHI worth thousands of Dalasis.
Reacting to these donations, Gunjurians both at home and in the diaspora expressed their gratitude to GDHI for the donations and assured them that the items will be put to very good use as intended.
Buba Kasong Barrow who runs “Breakfast for The Sick“ at Gunjur Health Centre had this to say:
“This is a wonderful gesture from GDHI. We thank you so much for having us in your minds and donating these health items to us. May God reward you abundantly. I would like to give my sincere thanks to Madam Tukulorr who facilitated all these and we hope you will continue to do what you are doing for our communities.” For his part, Gunjur Ward Councillor Momodou Charreh Jibba added: “ANOTHER WONDERFUL GESTURE - Several different medical materials worth of thousands of dalasis were received from GHDI at the gunjur health centre. On behalf of all the local authorities of Gunjur, please allow me to register and convey our heartfelt felicitations and appreciation. We thank GHDI and everyone who contributed or facilitated to enable our community become a beneficiary to this benevolent GESTURE. Ala abaraka, alning bara.” Gunjur Health Centre is the only Major health facility in the catchment area of Kombo South Region Servicing a lot of satellite villages in the surrounding areas. These donations from GDHI will go a long way in providing the necessary medical equipment and items in the health care delivery service for Gunjur and the communities that depend on Gunjur Health Centre for their health care needs.
