GUNJUR / WEST COAST REGION, The Gambia – Green Up Gambia on Wednesday joined partners of the Ramadan Project to plant and distribute more than 50 seedlings of nutritious fruit crops to five schools in an initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and healthy nutrition among students.

The schools that benefited from the initiative include Gunjur Madina Kunkunding Lower Basic School, Lang Sona Foundation Nursery School, Disability Africa Centre, Bato Kunku Lower Basic School, and Jambur Upper and Senior Secondary School.
Each school received a selection of fruit tree seedlings including avocado, orange, mango, guava and soursop. In addition, the institutions were provided with five plant cages, two watering cans and a spade to support the proper planting and maintenance of the young trees.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to encourage tree planting, strengthen environmental awareness and promote food sustainability within school communities.
By planting fruit trees within school compounds, the project aims not only to contribute to a greener environment, but also to provide a future source of nutritious fruits for students.
Organisers say the collaboration demonstrates the importance of community partnerships in tackling climate challenges while supporting education and nutrition across local communities.

The activity also served as an educational opportunity for students to learn about the importance of protecting the environment and nurturing trees, helping to instill a strong culture of environmental responsibility among the younger generation.
