The Gambia’s Sona Jobarteh and Dawda Jorbateh have both been nominated for the
SONGLiNES Music Awards 2023 for the Africa and Middle East Category.
Sona Jobarteh’s latest album Badinyaa Kumoo gets the nomination and Soaring Wild Lands of Dawda Jorbateh wins him a place in the nomination list.
Reacting to this nomination, Gambia’s only female Kora player and singer Sona Jobarteh wrote on her Facebook page:
“Grateful for my latest album Badinyaa Kumoo to be nominated for the 2023 Songlines Music Awards! 🙏🏽”
The winners in all of the categories will be announced in the June 2023 issue (on sale May 12) and the Newcomer and World Pioneer award recipients will be announced later in the year according to SONGLiNES Music Award.
