G-Sports media network and Gunjur Sports Committee have jointly organized first-ever monthly awards as they rewarded the most outstanding player and disciplined team for the month of September in the 2021 Gunjur summer football championship ('Nawettan').
The initiative by members of G-Sports (Yusupha Janneh, Pa M. Jatta & Famara Badjie) and GSC aims to motivate players and encourage discipline in the 'Nawettan'.
Diego F.C‘s Sanna Jassey (Messi) was voted as the most outstanding player with a reward of D500 (five hundred) dalasi and a certificate, while Ecomog Football Club was given the award for the most disciplined team of the late Bekai O. Bojang award of D1,000 and a certificate.
Pa Mambuna Bojang, Gunjur born U.S based veteran midfielder who sponsored the most disciplined team award said a successful and trouble-free competition where every player is accorded the opportunity to showcase their talent is what he hopes to see.
"The British Boxer, Luke Campbell, posited and I quote, "Talent is nothing without dedication and discipline, and dedication and discipline is a talent in itself." We must always remind our young talents to always have discipline if they want to have successful careers," he said.
Further explaining why he named the award after his brother, Mambuna said, "naming the award after my late brother, Bekai O Bojang, is quite befitting. He worked tirelessly in several areas of youth development (carpentry, masonry, football, to name a few) within our community and he did so with dedication and discipline".
Yusupha Janneh (Prince Emma) the main initiator of the awards said he is ever proud of giving back to the community.
"I am always happy to support the young players, even if it's up to spending my little resource I will do," he said.
"Since I came up with this initiative a lot of people supported it including members of GSC which is great progress", he added.
Pa M Jatta who is as well the PRO of Gunjur Sports Committee called on sponsors to support the initiative.
"For the continuation of this monthly awards, sponsors are highly encouraged to support to amplify the efforts of our players to do more" Jatta said.
