Gunjur, The Gambia, 12.08.25 – In the heart of Gunjur Kombo South, an inspiring initiative is making waves in the lives of vulnerable girls and young women. The center focuses on girls who have dropped out of school, teenage mothers, and those facing social and economic challenges. Through hands-on training in sewing, tie & dye, batik, beading, embroidery, and soap making, the program offers not only technical skills but also mentorship, life skills education, and business training.

“We believe that every young woman deserves the chance to thrive, no matter her past circumstances, by teaching vocational skills and fostering self-reliance, we are breaking cycles of poverty and dependency.”

The training approach combines practical workshops with personal development sessions, covering topics such as financial literacy, goal setting, and building self-confidence. This holistic method ensures that graduates are not only employable but also capable of starting their own small businesses.

Community leaders have welcomed the initiative, seeing it as a vital step toward empowering young women and strengthening the local economy. The center is already partnering with local organisations and stakeholders to expand its reach and impact.

For many of the participants, the program is more than a skills course. It’s a fresh start. As one trainee shared, “I didn’t think I had a future, but now I can see myself running my own tailoring shop one day.”

With determination, training, and community support, Great Mind’s Skills Training Center is proving that opportunity can change lives - one stitch, one design, and one dream at a time.
