The Government of The Gambia has officially declared Thursday, 19th March and Friday, 20th March 2026 as public holidays in celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

The announcement was made in a press release from the Office of the President, confirming that the holidays are in anticipation of the Muslim feast locally known as Koriteh.

According to the statement, Adama Barrow expressed his pleasure in granting the holidays nationwide, allowing Muslims across the country to observe the important religious occasion.

However, authorities clarified that the exact day of Eid-ul-Fitr will depend on the official sighting of the moon, which will be announced by the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council.

President Barrow also extended his warmest Eid greetings to all Gambians on behalf of the Government and the First Family.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, a period of fasting, prayer, and reflection observed by Muslims worldwide.
