A proud moment has been recorded for Gunjur as one of its own, Ahmed Manjang, a Senior Lecturer in Medical Science at the University of The Gambia (UTG), celebrates the graduation of his first batch of medical doctors.

According to Manjang, this cohort holds special significance as they represent the first group of students he has guided from training to graduation. He described them as โ€œreal-life heroes,โ€ noting their resilience and determination despite the demanding nature of their field, particularly in Laboratory Medicine.

โ€œThese students faced steep obstacles, including limited resources and the rigorous demands of medical training, but through hard work, dedication, and perseverance, they made it through,โ€ he said.

The Gunjur-born lecturer fondly referred to the graduates as his โ€œguinea pigs,โ€ praising their adaptability and commitment throughout their academic journey.

In a further boost of pride for the coastal community, one of the graduates, Dr Abubacarr F. Darboe, is also a native of Gunjur, highlighting the townโ€™s growing contribution to the countryโ€™s healthcare sector.
