A proud moment has been recorded for Gunjur as one of its own, Ahmed Manjang, a Senior Lecturer in Medical Science at the University of The Gambia (UTG), celebrates the graduation of his first batch of medical doctors.
A total of 54 students from the Universityโs School of Medicine and Applied Sciences have successfully completed their studies, overcoming significant academic and resource challenges along the way.

According to Manjang, this cohort holds special significance as they represent the first group of students he has guided from training to graduation. He described them as โreal-life heroes,โ noting their resilience and determination despite the demanding nature of their field, particularly in Laboratory Medicine.
โThese students faced steep obstacles, including limited resources and the rigorous demands of medical training, but through hard work, dedication, and perseverance, they made it through,โ he said.
The Gunjur-born lecturer fondly referred to the graduates as his โguinea pigs,โ praising their adaptability and commitment throughout their academic journey.
In a further boost of pride for the coastal community, one of the graduates, Dr Abubacarr F. Darboe, is also a native of Gunjur, highlighting the townโs growing contribution to the countryโs healthcare sector.

The achievement of the 54 doctors marks not only a personal milestone for the graduates but also a significant step forward for UTG and The Gambiaโs medical field.
Manjang concluded by congratulating the new doctors and wishing them success as they embark on their professional careers.
