Former Gambia Army training instructor, Alagie Kanyi, has disclosed to TRRC that Yankuba Touray, Edward Singhateh and Peter Singhateh ordered him to take part in the orchestrated assassination of former Minister of Finance Ousman Koro Ceesay.
In his testimony before the commission tasked with investigation of human rights abuses under former president Jammeh, he said:
“I was picked up from Brikama and taken to the house of Edward Singhateh in Bakau. He told me there was one civilian cunt who had to be taken care of. We were accompanied by Tumbul Tamba, Peter Singhateh and others.
We went to Yankuba Touray’s compound to wait for the person we were going to take care of. Edward later told me the person we were going to take care of had arrived. I went to the door and saluted the civilian whom I later found out was Ousman Koro Ceesay. When he entered the room he was hit with a pestle and there was blood all over the place. We were all asked to hit him on the head even though he was already dead to make sure we all took part in the killing”.
Kanyi said the deceased was then placed in his official car and transported elsewhere in a staged accident where he was badly burnt. Peter Singhateh, he observed, sustained injuries to his hand in the staged accident.
