Students at the University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (USET) are set to stage a peaceful protest on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The demonstration comes amid growing frustration over inadequate learning resources, inconsistent lectures, and repeated delays in final examinations.

According to student representatives, the learning environment has deteriorated significantly over the past academic year. Basic essentials such as chairs, laboratory equipment, and practical tools remain in short supply, while scheduled lectures have become increasingly irregular.

“This situation is deeply frustrating. We want to learn, we want to grow, but the conditions here make it almost impossible,” said one electrical engineering student, who requested anonymity.

The final examinations, initially scheduled for June 9th, have now been postponed multiple times - first to June 23rd, then to June 30th. They are currently delayed indefinitely due to an ongoing sit-down strike by lecturers. The lack of clarity has left many students in limbo, with their academic progress stalled.

“These continuous delays are causing a lot of stress and uncertainty. Students are eager to complete their exams and move forward academically,” a spokesperson for the protesting students told Gunjur Online.

The students emphasise that the demonstration is not meant to create disruption but to draw urgent attention to their plight and call for immediate action from university authorities and the Ministry of Higher Education. Their demands include:

  • Provision of essential learning materials

  • Regular and consistent lecture schedules

  • A clear and confirmed examination timetable

  • Resolution of the ongoing strike involving academic staff

In a written statement shared with Gunjur Online, the students urged the public, media, and all relevant authorities to stand in solidarity with them.

“We are calling for your support in bringing attention to this issue. The students of USET deserve clarity and the chance to move forward with their education.”

The protest is expected to remain peaceful and focused on constructive engagement with the administration.

Despite significant investment in the construction of a modern leaning facility for USET at an advanced stage, focus should remain on the current situation of the USET students, their learning and examination situation. USET has yet to release an official response regarding the planned protest or the status of the exams.
