Following the celebration of International Women’s Day, the UK’s Deputy High Commissioner to The Gambia, Martin Norman, has signed a grant agreement with The Gambia Chevening Alumni Association to support an important initiative aimed at empowering young girls.

The project will provide training for 100 girls within the West Coast Region, focusing on gender-based violence (GBV) awareness and menstrual hygiene management. It seeks to bridge the knowledge gap on critical issues affecting girls’ growth and well-being, equipping them with essential information and skills.
The Chevening Alumni Association, made up of former scholars who studied for a master’s degree in the UK, has taken the lead in implementing this initiative as a way of giving back to their communities. Their dedication to addressing key social challenges highlights the lasting impact of UK-funded Chevening Scholarships.

Deputy High Commissioner Martin Norman expressed his support for the initiative, emphasising the UK’s commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of young women.
This project aligns with broader efforts to promote education, awareness, and advocacy for girls’ rights in The Gambia, ensuring they have the tools to navigate challenges and build a brighter future.
