In this month’s Spotlight, Gunjur Online shines a light on the Kombo Sillah Association UK (KSA-UK) - a dynamic, community-rooted charity that has become a pillar of unity, service, and cultural preservation for Gambians in the diaspora.
Roots and Purpose
Named in honour of the late Kombo Sillah - a respected son of Gunjur - the association was born in June 2000 from a shared desire to uplift Gambians living in the UK while contributing meaningfully to communities back home.

Founded in Slough, Berkshire in the year 2000 by a small group of Gambians, mainly from the coastal settlement of Gunjur in The Gambia and now firmly based in Bristol, KSA-UK has grown into a registered UK charity recognised for its community impact, cultural engagement, and diaspora empowerment.
What They Do
KSA-UK’s mission spans two continents, but its core remains singular:
Empowering communities through solidarity and service.
In the UK:
Organises annual Cultural Weekends, Family Fun Days, and Independence Day events.
Hosts FGM awareness workshops, child safeguarding sessions, and women’s drop-in clinics.
Promotes social inclusion and youth engagement through targeted outreach and education.
In The Gambia:
Built and equipped a maternity ward at Gunjur Health Centre.
Provided ambulance repairs, diabetic testing kits, and medical supplies.
Funded vital education projects, including a school dining hall and summer learning programs.
Recognition and Influence
In 2024, KSA-UK received a glowing endorsement from Her Excellency Fatou Bom Bensouda, The Gambia’s High Commissioner to the UK. She praised the group’s:
“Remarkable work in promoting culture, unity, and grassroots development.”

Driven by Volunteers, Powered by Purpose
Entirely volunteer-led, KSA-UK is steered by a dedicated board of trustees and an expanding network of passionate supporters.
Their ethos is built on:
Community upliftment
Cultural pride
Intergenerational unity
“Cementing social cohesion and community integration.”
From Bristol to Gunjur, their impact continues to inspire.
