Seasoned football administrator Abdou Salaam Jammeh dies

Mr. Abdou Salaam Jammeh, a former Administrative Secretary, Deputy Secretary General of the defaunts Gambia Football Association (GFA) and CAF Education Officer has died in India earlier today. Mr Jammeh travelled to India few months ago where he underwent a successful kidney transplant.

The Sukuta born Mr Jammeh was a journalist with the Daily Observer before switching careers to football administration. He also served in sports administration for Sukuta, Kombo North and Western Division as he built his career in football administration.


Announcing the demise of Mr Abdou Salaam Jammeh, Gambia Football Federation (GFF) said:


“The President and Executive Committee of The Gambia Football Federation regret to announce to its stakeholders and the general public that our former Deputy General Secretary, Mr. Abdou Salaam Jammeh has sadly passed away in India this morning where he was on treatment.

Mr. Jammeh was supposed to flew (sic) back to The Gambia today after a successful procedure and an excellent recovery. Unfortunately, he got admitted at the ICU in India yesterday and was sadly pronounced death (sic) a couple of hours ago.

A former journalist with the defunct Daily Observer, Salaam spent majority of his professional career as a football administrative (sic) and served as the CAF Education Officer and the DGS for the defunct GFA. He returned to Football House as the DGS in 2014 and in 2018, he decided to take a voluntary retirement from professional life.”


Abdou Salaam Jammeh will be missed by everyone who knows him professionally and at a personal level. He was a dedicated, competent and committed football administrator who contributed immensely to the development of Gambian football.
