UDP supporters and civil rights activists are expected to take to the streets in protest against Momodou Sabally’s detention.
UDP campaign manager was arrested in the wake of comments he made to UDP Tik Tokers pledging to ‘remove Adama Barrow before the local government elections’.
The Gambia police filed for an extension of his detention with the high court following the expiration of 72hrs constitutional limit. The court granted the state’s prayers for his detention till January 5th, as the police plough on with their investigations.
Momodou Sabally was last week invited for questioning by Brusubi Police regarding comments he made, threatening to "overthrow" the Barrow regime before the upcoming local government polls.
In the comments addressing his supporters which was posted to Tik Tok, Sabally said:
“We will remove Adama Barrow even before the local government polls”.
A security source, who spoke to Gunjuronline on condition of anonymity, divulged instructions have been handed from above for Sabally to be charged with ‘conspiracy to commit treason and seditious intent contrary to the Laws of The Gambia’.
Rumours of a failed coup emerged on social media on Tuesday which was followed by a press release from the Government of The Gambia, that four low ranking soldiers of the Gambia Armed Forces have been arrested for the failed attempted coup on the government of President Adama Barrow. The release further stated that three other alleged coupists were on the run.
