He is no stranger to anyone who followed football in the 1980s and 90s in the sprawling coastal town of Gunjur, which produced footballing greats like Buba Star Janneh, Foday Jabang, Buba Keita, Pa Mambuna Bojang, to name just a few.
Lamin Peace played football as a goalkeeper for Gimindar Foitball club before going into football administration and refereeing.
Lamin Touray, best known as Lamin ‘Peace’ or simply ‘Peace’ not only played football, but coached, refereed and administered the beautiful game in Gunjur for several decades despite challenges that came with playing, managing, refereeing and administering community football. The ever smiling and jovial Mr Touray was a career health worker whose outstanding services to the community of Gunjur has been recognised across the community.
As Most Oustanding Personality of the Year, a whopping sum of one hundred and twenty-three thousand, one hundred and forty Dalasis and twenty-three bututs (D123,140.23) has been raised for Lamin Peace Touray by Gunjurians across the globe. The money was presented to him at the handing over ceremony of the renovated children’s toilets at the Gunjur Lower Basic School on Sunday 27th November 2022.
