Iceland Crowned Champions of Maiden GSC Beach Soccer Championship

Gunjur, The Gambia – June 22, 2025


Iceland have etched their name in local sports history by winning the inaugural Gunjur Sports Committee (GSC) 2024/2025 Beach Soccer Championship. The thrilling final took place earlier today at Gunjur Beach, where Iceland triumphed over Solar Enterprise with a convincing 2-0 victory.

The much-anticipated final drew a large and enthusiastic crowd, showcasing the growing popularity of beach soccer in the sprawling coastal town. Iceland’s disciplined performance and tactical superiority proved decisive as they overcame a resilient Solar Enterprise side to lift the first-ever GSC beach soccer trophy.


Following the final whistle, Iceland were presented with a giant championship trophy, a set of football jerseys, and a cash prize of D6,000. The presentations were made by Mr. Mafugie Jatta, Secretary of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Beach Soccer Committee.

The set of jerseys awarded to the champions was generously donated by Mr. Modou Y. Cham, Financial Secretary and Coordinator of the West Coast Region Referee Association, in a show of support for community sports development.

Runners-up Solar Enterprise were also recognised for their impressive campaign, receiving a consolation cash prize of D4,000.


The GSC Beach Soccer Championship aims to promote grassroots sports and create more competitive opportunities for young athletes in Gunjur and its surroundings. Organisers hailed the success of the tournament and expressed optimism about its future.


“Congrats to iceland and well done GSC for this great sporting initiative in Gunjur,the bar is set high and we should go further henceforth in terms of introducing other sporting deciplines! “ commented Essa Sumareh on the success and importance of organising the tournament in Gunjur .


With Iceland setting the benchmark in this maiden edition, the future of beach soccer in Gunjur looks bright.
