In a joyful and emotional celebration, Gunjur Kulukochi Community Pre-School on Thursday held its 8th annual graduation ceremony, marking the successful transition of 33 young learners -18 boys and 15 girls - from preschool to the next phase of their education.

Held on the school grounds, the colourful ceremony was guided by this year’s powerful theme: “Make a Promise to a Parent.” The theme resonated deeply with both children and families, encouraging graduates to commit to learning, respect, and responsibility - promises that reflect the hopes and sacrifices of their parents.

The event brought together parents, educators, community members, and partners in a celebration that combined cultural performances, emotional speeches, and words of encouragement for the graduating class.

Headteacher Mr. Boto Bojang, addressing attendees, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the strong support from the surrounding community.

“We are so thrilled by the community participation and the parents of the children,” he told Gunjur Online. “So much support has been received from the surrounding area and beyond. We are thankful to everyone, including our partners and colleagues in the same field.”

He acknowledged the vital contributions of the school’s teaching staff, the Mothers’ Club, and the founding members, all of whom played a significant role in organising the event.

Special tribute was given to a young German intern Hamidovic Sumeja who had volunteered at the school since October 2024. Her involvement, Mr. Bojang noted, left a lasting impact on both the school and its students.

“She has been wonderful, and her impact will surely be seen in each of those children. While she returned to Germany on Saturday, 28 June 2025, we wish her a safe journey and all the very best ahead.”

Background

Established in 2016, Gunjur Kulukochi Community Pre-School was founded to provide accessible and affordable early childhood education to children in the Kulukochi area of Gunjur. Born from grassroots efforts and community collaboration, the school has since become a pillar of educational development in the area.

Over the years, the school has supported hundreds of young learners, helping them build strong academic and social foundations. With continued support from the community, dedicated staff, and local and international partners, the pre-school remains committed to preparing children for success in formal schooling and beyond.

The 2025 graduation theme, “Make a Promise to a Parent,” served not only as a celebration of achievement but also as a reminder of the shared journey between students, teachers, and families - and the importance of honouring the dreams parents hold for their children.
