District Football: Gunjur are champions of Kombo South
Gunjur has defeated Banyaka 3-1 in the Kombo South District football tournament held at the Sanyang Football Field on Saturday, 26th February 2022.
Gunjur came in to the finals unbeaten in the entire campaign against first-time finalist Banyaka who were looking to win their first ever District Championship against a much experienced and compact side.
But it was Banyaka who took the led to stun the seaside boys.The Dabanani outfit however had other ideas when they finally broke down the Banyaka defence to level matters through Sheriffo Bojang alias “Fixer” to make it one all.
Gunjur took the lead again through Sheriffo Bojang (Fixer) to make it 2-1 to Gunjur much to the jubilation of the travelling fans.
Matters were finally settled that put the game beyond Banyaka when Ousman Janneh slot home to make it 3-1 to Gunjur lot confirm Gunjur as champions of Kombo South District. Sheriffo Bojang (Fixer) Sherrifo won the Golden Boot with 9 goals in the competition.
The Best Goalkeeper of the tournament Award went to Gunju’s Muhammed Touray.
Gunjur who were lead by head coach Sulayman Barrow went home with a giant trophy and D45,000 price money, while runner up Banyaka got D35,000.
