GEPADG-GHEC recognises outstanding community volunteers

The Gunjur Environmental Protection and Developmemt Group (GEPADG) headed by Executive Director Mr Badara N. Bajo in collaboration with GHEC has presented certificates of appreciation to some members of the community for their services to the communities through volunteering, benevolence, especially in the areas protecting the environment, youth and sports development, health and well-being of the community amongst others.

The following were awarded certificates to recognise their individual efforts to the protection and advancement of the community for the greater good:

The event which took place on Sunday is the first of its kind and it is aimed at recognising the efforts of community champions annually. 


Reacting to the recognition, Ahmed Manjang who was recognised for his efforts in compelling NAWEC through PURA to ensure that the people of Gunjur are supplied with water fit for human consumption. For more than five years, the water mains in Gunjur were pumping contaminated water to the taps in Gunjur which was not fit for human consumption. It was through the efforts of Ahmed Manjang, a multi-sectorial effort resulted in Gunjur being connected to another borehole with better quality of water for consumption.

Ahmed Manjang said of the award:

“All praises to God, I want to thank GEPADG for this award. If you know me, I am synomous with awards whether win or loose, but this one is special as it’s from my own people”. Manjang further said that this recognition further motivates him to redouble his efforts in the service of the community. He thanked GEPADG Director for coming up with such a laudable idea.


Tech World company of Sisqo (Ebrima Touray) was recognised for paving the streets of Gunjur and the surrounding settlements with over 500 solar powered street lamp posts.


Sireh K. Janneh who was awarded for spearheading the community wide Gunjur Primary School toilet rehabilitation project on behalf of the Gunjur VDC thanked GEPADG for this wonderful imitative saying it’s the first of its kind in the community of Gunjur. Ms Janneh believes that this award will serve as motivation for others to give back to their communities.

The event was attended by Lamin Darboe on behalf of the Alkali of Gunjur, Gunjur Ward Councillor Hon. Momodou Charreh Jibba, Council of elders and other dignitaries.
