As The Gambia prepares for the December 5 presidential election, UDP leader Ousainou Darboe has appealed to Gambians to place their trust in his leadership, pledging to serve the nation with honesty, transparency, and dedication if elected.

In a message addressed to the nation on his Facebook page, Darboe said he is seeking the presidency not for personal gain, but to serve the people and help address the challenges facing the country.
โI seek not power for its own sake, but the opportunity to serve. I want to earn the trust and vote of the people so that I can work for the people,โ he stated.
The veteran politician emphasized the need for unity, saying Gambians from all backgrounds share a common future despite their differences. He described the countryโs strength as being rooted in the resilience, hard work, and hope of its citizens.
Darboe promised that, if entrusted with leadership, he would govern with integrity and accountability while prioritizing the interests of the nation above personal ambition.
โLeadership is not about privilege. It is not about status. Leadership is about responsibility. It is about putting the interests of the nation above personal ambition and serving the people with integrity and accountability,โ he said.
The UDP leader further pledged to listen to citizensโ concerns, tackle national challenges with determination, and work towards building a stronger, fairer, and more united country where every citizen has an opportunity to succeed.
While acknowledging that no leader is perfect, Darboe vowed to remain committed to serving the people and earning their confidence through hard work and dedication.
โI do not promise perfection, but I do promise commitment. I do not promise easy solutions, but I do promise hard work,โ he said.
Concluding his message, Darboe called on Gambians to embrace unity and shared purpose as the country heads toward a crucial election period, expressing hope for a prosperous future guided by the values that have long defined the nation.
The December 5 presidential election is expected to be one of the most closely watched political contests in The Gambia, with parties intensifying their campaigns and outreach efforts across the country.
