The Brikama Area Council (BAC) has approved the inclusion of Alkalolu and Seyfolu in the mobilisation of value property rate revenue as part of efforts to strengthen local revenue collection and improve collaboration between the Council and traditional authorities.

The resolution was adopted during the Councilโs Monthly General Sitting held on 16 June 2026 following a recommendation from the Finance Sub-Committee. Council members endorsed the proposal to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of property rate revenue mobilisation while fostering stronger partnerships with local authorities across the West Coast Region, according to BAC statement.
Under the new arrangement, Alkalolu and Seyfolu will play a direct role in supporting the collection of property rates within their respective communities. To incentivise their participation, the Council approved a revenue-sharing mechanism tied to the amounts mobilised through their efforts.
According to the resolution, Alkalolu will receive an incentive of 5 percent of the revenue collected through their coordination, while Seyfolu will be entitled to 2.5 percent.
The Council believes the initiative will improve compliance with property rate payments, increase internally generated revenue, and strengthen cooperation between local government structures and traditional leaders.
In a statement following the resolution, the Management and Staff of Brikama Area Council called on all Alkalolu and Seyfolu to diligently execute their new responsibilities and work closely with Council authorities to ensure the success of the initiative.
The move is expected to contribute to sustainable regional development by enhancing revenue generation and supporting the delivery of essential services to communities across the West Coast Region.
