Brikama Area Council (BAC) Chairman, Yankuba โ€œYanksโ€ Darboe, has officially withdrawn from consideration for the United Democratic Partyโ€™s (UDP) 2026 presidential flagbearership. His decision follows the announcement by veteran party leader, Lawyer Ousainu Darboe, that he will be seeking the nomination.

In a statement affirming his commitment to his earlier pledge, Yanks Darboe emphasised the importance of integrity in politics, declaring:

โ€œMy words are my bond! I promised not to seek the UDP flagbearership if Lawyer Darboe is seeking for it, and since Lawyer Darboe had announced that he will be seeking for it, I wish to notify you all that I will not be applying for it!โ€


The announcement reaffirms the generational loyalty and unity within the UDP as it prepares for the 2026 elections, with party stalwarts undoubtedly rallying behind long-time leader Ousainu Darboe.
