Captain Abubacarr Ngally Sambou, originally from Sifoe Village in The Gambiaโs West Coast Region, has graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Health Sciences Gรผlhane in Ankara, Tรผrkiye, marking a significant achievement in both his academic and military career.

His journey began in October 2019 when he was selected for a competitive military medical training programme designed to develop future military physicians. He first attended the National Defense University in Ankara, where he completed intensive Turkish language instruction alongside foundational military training.
After successfully completing this phase, Captain Sambou enrolled in the six-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme at the University of Health Sciences. The programme, taught entirely in Turkish, required students to meet rigorous academic standards while adapting to a new language and environment.

Throughout his studies, he combined medical education with military duties, taking part in clinical training, laboratory work, leadership programmes, military exercises and field training. His ability to balance these responsibilities demonstrated strong commitment and discipline.
In June 2026, Captain Sambou completed the programme and graduated as a qualified medical doctor and military officer.

His accomplishment is being celebrated as an important milestone, highlighting the growing opportunities for Gambians in specialized fields such as military medicine. It also serves as an inspiration to young people pursuing careers in healthcare, education and public service.
Captain Sambouโs achievement reflects years of dedication, perseverance and hard work. From his beginnings in Sifoe Village to graduating from a respected medical institution in Tรผrkiye, his success brings pride to his family, community and The Gambia.
