To facilitate the important role of the Imam Ratib of Gunjur, Alhagie Muhammed Lamin Touray, Gunjurians both at home and abroad raised substantial amount of money to purchase a vehicle to support his functions in the community.
Spearheaded by USA based duo of Sukai Jobe and Faburama Darboe, a global fundraising campaign was launched which led to the successful purchase of a Ford SUV from Taiwan through the assistance of Musa Bojang.
The vehicle was shipped to the country from Taiwan and the Imam Ratib offered to pay for the customs duty and clearance of the vehicle.
At the presentation of the vehicle on Thursday, which was witnessed by council of elders, the Alkali Dembo Darboe thanked the donors for the wonderful gesture, saying that the vehicle will facilitate the movement of the Imam Ratib within the community to attend important events. The Alkali underscored the importance of community cohesion without which such could not be achieved.
Other speakers include Fa Bajay Bojang, Fa Saikouba Barrow and Sherrifo Sanyang who all expressed similar sentiments, thanking all those who contributed in the purchase of the vehicle. The vehicle was officially presented by the Alkali to the council of elders on behalf of the Imam Ratib who was said to have travelled.
