I would like to congratulate Honourable Kebba K. Barrow “KKB” on being elected as a Member of Parliament ‘MP’ for Kombo South following a hard-fought campaign.
His convincing victory to yet again another term as MP representing Kombo South Region validates peoples’ confidence in his leadership.
Despite Hon. KKB’s fallibility during his first five years as an MP, he is clearly, by far, the best candidate amongst the lineup of candidates who vied for representing Kombo South.
Therefore, Gunjur and Kombo South stands ready to work with Hon. KKB. Hence, I challenge him to be agile, more engaging, unifying, communicating, listening and be bold enough to address the environmental, land disputes, youth unempowerment, the backway disasters, Gunjur Mini Stadium - debacles that bedevils Gunjur and Kombo South.
Like Honourable KKB, the victory of many opposition and independent candidates in this parliamentary election should be taken as an unmistakable rejection of President Barrow’s politics and his economic system that simply is not working for the majority of Gambians.
The president’s policies delivered escalating poverty and stagnating living standards for the majority of Gambians. After this election results, the need for a real alternative to a failed economic and political system could not be clearer.
The alternative, therefore, must be based on working together, social justice, economic renewal, addressing endemic corruption, overall systemic change than sowing fear and division.
And the solutions have to improve the lives of everyone, not to pit one group of Gambians against another for party political gains.
I hope the president and his cabal will listen to the Gambian people. Because, I have no doubt, that the decency and common sense of Gambians will always prevail.
Once again, I warmly congratulate Hon. KKB for his spectacular election success.
